Our Story

Crops/Horticulture/Forestry/Irrigation
When I joined Yegen Farm in mid-2014, the landscape was dominated by a eucalyptus tree plantation. At the main entrance, mango trees greeted visitors, while the lower side featured two banana varieties: one for ripening and another dual-purpose for cooking and ripening.
The farm also boasted an organic farming area near the back entrance, with the remaining fields planted with maize. In 2017, we revolutionized operations by introducing an irrigation system installed by Irico Company. This innovation paved the way for cultivating assorted vegetables and establishing an avocado nursery. Over time, the maize plantation was gradually replaced with avocado trees, creating a thriving orchard.
Poultry
In 2014, our poultry operations started with 5,000 birds of Indbro (Indian Brown Layers) Parent Stock, with 10% being male birds of a different line. Egerton University trained our staff in artificial insemination, significantly enhancing productivity. Back then, we had a hatchery with a capacity of 30,000 eggs and a hatcher capable of handling 10,000 chicks. This setup allowed us to hatch approximately 8,000 chicks weekly, sold locally and to county governments in areas such as Uasin Gishu, Nandi, West Pokot, Bomet, and Embu, with a strong market presence in Western Kenya.

Today, our poultry operations have expanded exponentially. The bird population has grown to 220,000, with improved housing facilities. We’ve also introduced broiler parent stock rearing, with chicks sold locally and beyond the region. Broilers are reared and processed using a state-of-the-art slaughtering machine located at Kosachei Farm, ensuring premium quality.
Egg sales, once managed from a small store near the production houses, have now shifted to a modern mall dedicated to our poultry products, offering convenience and variety to our customers.
Dairy
Our dairy operations began in 2014 with 50 cows, including calves, producing 200 liters of milk daily. Today, Yegen Farm is home to over 250 mature cows and 70 calves, with daily milk production exceeding 2,100 liters. This milk is sold to the New Kenya Co-operative Creameries (NKCC), supporting the local economy and meeting growing demand.
